TYDKaWoW #002 | Female bearded Dwarves are canon

I have never really thought about, whether or not female dwarves should have beards. I stumbled upon a MMOChampion Post about Sub-Races, where an edited Picture of one got posted. And as it turns out, female bearded dwarfs are canon in the Warcraft universe. One has even been depicted in the cancelled "Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans".

And they were also mentioned in "The Day of the Dragon", which is one of the official Lore-Books.

***Quote 1***
Falstad followed her pointing finger. “Those roughhewn hills that look like my grandmother, beard and all? Aye, 'tis a good choice! We'll descend toward those!”

***Quote 2***
Looking at them, the elf could have sworn that they were all brothers — although, in fact, at least two hinted at being sisters. Even female dwarves sported strong beards, a sign of beauty among members of the race.

Does this mean we'll see them in-game as a customization Option at some point? Probably not. It would be too "manly", just as the Alpha Troll and Tauren models, which got rejected by the community. In a Battle.net Forum Post about the Topic, I found this interesting Article talking about Sexual Dimorphism in Games, especially World of Warcraft. Andrea Rubenstein reports, that "it would not be unreasonable to expect the female of the species to be similar" from a biology standpoint, but that "many complaints about the women [...] being ugly" lead to the changes to a more "feminine ideal"-model.

Was this a Thing You Didn't Know about World of Warcraft?
